Milena Carla Lima de Carvalho holds a PhD in Documentary Sciences, specialising in Information Management and Information Services, from the University of Coimbra (2014), a Master's degree in Archives, Libraries and Information Science from the University of Évora (2008), a postgraduate qualification in Archival Studies from the University of Porto (2003), a postgraduate qualification in Human Resources Management (2002), and a degree in European Studies (1997). She is an Assistent Professor at Porto Faculty of Business Sciences - Technical University of Porto, and at the School of Technology and Management of Lamego, Polytechnic Institute of Viseu. She has extensive experience in higher education, teaching, academic management, research and the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students. Since 2016, she has been Director of the Bachelor's Degree in Documentation and Information Sciences and Technologies at ISCAP, and after 2026 at Porto Faculty of Business Sciences. where she also coordinates postgraduate programmes in Information Services Management, Health Documentation Management and Educational Resource Centres in the Digital Age. Her previous academic responsibilities include the management of postgraduate education in school libraries and the Master's Degree in Business Information. Her research activities are undertaken within the Centre for Organisational and Social Studies of the Polytechnic University of Porto (CEOS.PP), the Transdisciplinary Research Centre for Culture, Space and Memory (CITCEM) at the University of Porto, and research networks associated with the University of León, Spain. She also maintains academic and research collaborations with Brazilian institutions. Her principal research interests include Information Science, information and knowledge management, information behaviour and mediation, archival studies, digital preservation, information literacy, digital transformation, information ethics, cultural and documentary heritage, sustainability and tourism. She has authored and co-authored scientific publications in national and international journals, conference proceedings and edited volumes. Her research addresses the organisational and societal dimensions of information, including digital technologies, information professionals' competencies, access to information, archival mediation and the preservation of collective memory. She has extensive experience in academic supervision, scientific event organisation, editorial activities and participation in scientific committees. She has also contributed to the development and evaluation of higher education programmes, including quality assurance and accreditation processes. At international level, she serves as an expert evaluator for the European Commission in the fields of Information Science, archives and libraries, and has participated in higher education quality assessment activities in Lithuania. Her academic work reflects a sustained commitment to advancing Information Science through research, teaching, international cooperation and engagement with professional practice.
