João Miguel Aguiar is Adjunct Professor at Polytechnic Institute of Management and Technology (ISLA-Gaia), where is Director of Multimedia degree. As a researcher, João Aguiar is an integrated researcher at I3ID-FFP, and member of the European Digital Education Hub. João holds a degree in Sociology, a master's degree in Communication Sciences both from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto (Portugal), and a PhD in Digital Media - Industry, Public and Markets (2018) from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, and the University NOVA de Lisboa, in collaboration with the University of Texas at Austin. João Aguiar was also a scholarship researcher from the UT Austin | Portugal Program, funded by the Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation (FCT). João Aguiar works in Social Sciences with an emphasis on Sciences and Communication Technologies, and Digital Media. In his research activities, he interacted with several researchers from different areas in the co-authorship of several scientific works. In his curriculum, the most frequent terms in the context of scientific, technological, and artistic-cultural production are: Digital Media, Online Political Participation, Digital Literacy and Skills, Digital Divide, Statistics for Social Sciences, Research Methods and Composite Indicators, and Music Production & Sound Design. João was a researcher and developer in a science communication project at the University of Porto (i.e., Ciência 2.0), and research fellow at the Institute of Sociology of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto, within the scope of the project «HARMED: Socioeconomic and health determinants of elder abuse», a partnership with the Institute of Public Health of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (ISPUP). He was also invited Assistant Professor at the Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto, and Assistant Professor at Communication Department of the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences at University Fernando Pessoa.
